Batam — LAZ BATAM KEPRI has become a strategic partner of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia in implementing a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in Batam. The program was held on Friday, 28 November 2025 at the Al Jabar educational institutions, namely MTs Al Jabar and MI Al Jabar.
The UiTM delegation was led by Dr. Norbaiti, Ph.D, Chairperson of the CSR Program, along with 31 participants including lecturers, faculty members, and students. UiTM routinely conducts CSR programs as part of its community engagement efforts both in Malaysia and internationally. This collaboration provided an important opportunity to introduce UiTM to the Indonesian community and strengthen educational development in Batam and the Riau Islands.
LAZ BATAM’s Role in Education and Community Empowerment
As an official zakat institution in Batam with five main social programs, LAZ BATAM is highly committed to educational development through its Education Care Program, which includes scholarships for underprivileged students and various activities to enhance educational quality, character building, and student competencies.
In addition, LAZ BATAM strengthens community economic empowerment through the BUMi (Micro Business Assistance) program, aimed at increasing the economic independence of underprivileged families.
CSR Program Details
The CSR program featured two main modules:
1. Digital Friends – MTs Al Jabar
This module was attended by approximately 20 students at MTs Al Jabar, who received training in graphic design and videography using popular digital applications in line with current technological trends.
Goals & Expectations:

Enhance students’ digital literacy to creatively and productively use technology.

Equip students with graphic design and videography skills to support learning and creative school activities.

Foster a generation of students who are adaptable to technology and ready to face digital challenges.
2. Mini Young Entrepreneurs – MI Al Jabar
This module involved about 30 students at MI Al Jabar, who learned to make sandwiches without cooking, from ingredient preparation, production, packaging, to marketing.
Goals & Expectations:

Instill basic understanding of entrepreneurship and small business management from an early age.

Develop creativity, responsibility, and teamwork skills.

Provide students with practical skills that can be applied in daily life and future small business activities.
Students were enthusiastic and excited to participate in both modules.
Ms. Nur Latifah, M.Pd, Principal of MTs Al Jabar, expressed her gratitude to UiTM and especially to LAZ BATAM:
“We are very grateful to UiTM Malaysia and LAZ BATAM for their continuous care for the educational needs at Al Jabar, including enhancing the skills and abilities of our students, particularly at MI and MTs Al Jabar. We hope collaborations like this can continue to advance our students’ education.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Syarifuddin, ST, M.E.I, Chairman of LAZ BATAM, expressed appreciation for UiTM Malaysia’s trust in LAZ BATAM as a strategic partner in the CSR program:
“We are grateful to UiTM Malaysia for entrusting LAZ BATAM as their strategic partner in this CSR program. We are delighted that students in Batam can benefit from knowledge transfer from an international university. We hope this collaboration continues and provides even greater impact to the community.”
He also extended thanks to the Al Jabar schools and AEC management for facilitating the successful implementation of the program.
Call for CSR Collaboration
At the end of the program, LAZ BATAM invited all institutions, companies, and organizations to partner in managing CSR and Community Development programs:
“We invite all institutions and companies to collaborate with LAZ BATAM in managing CSR and community development programs. God willing, we are ready to assist in designing programs that create a real impact for the Batam and Riau Islands community.”
